Theater Mummpitz

Founded in 1980, Theater Mummpitz is an independent theatre group with its own theatre house at the Kachelbau in Nuremberg. Theater Mummpitz has toured Germany and many foreign countries, has been awarded many prizes and invited to numerous festivals in and outside of Germany.

Since starting more than 50 productions in varying cast (with the own ensemble and guests) and on various topics were made for children, teenagers and adults and its popularity increased steadily.

Theater Mummpitz currently offers nine plays in the permanent repertoire, most of them are available for touring.

Furthermore Theater Mummpitz has a large offer of pedagogic courses especially designed for children's groups, schools and pedagogues.

Other special events complement the wide range of activities. An example is the festival panoptikum which will run in February 2012 for the 7th time.

In 2009 Theater Mummpitz created the "Nürnberger KulturRucksack" (Nuremberg Cultural Backpack). This program allows children from unprivileged Nuremberg districts to visit four cultural events (music, fine arts, theatre, dance) and four workshops per school year.

The plays of Theater Mummpitz are orientated at the world of children and reflect children's questions and problems. However, childhood topics do not mean infantile plays – we aim at taking children seriously.

Children have the right to have a true dialogue and this is what we try to give them. Children need plays and stories in order to get to know life. A theatre is the perfect place for this as it offers many opportunities to live and learn.
